Phoenix Saloon Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Cool place, had a few beers here last night. Awkwardly showed up on a Ghosts of New Braunfels book launch so the place was pretty busy, and a little odd. Either way it was a fun time catching up with a friend. We were drinking imports so drinks were $4.50 and $5. Not too expensive but definitely not cheap, just in the middle. I'll come back and try a burger sometime.

This saloon was closed down due to prohibition in 1918. The Phoenix Saloon has risen from the ashes in downtown New Braunfels. The owner says he tried to make the saloon as close to the original as possible.

Had lunch here a couple of weeks ago and it was great. It wasn't busy at all and the place was kept really clean. I had the Blue Burger, which is a blue cheese stuffed burger topped with applewood smoked bacon and blue cheese mayo. It was delicious. I'm definitely going back.

I stumbled upon this place while in New Braunfels and I LOVED the atmosphere. Now, while i was there during the day on a Saturday it wasn't overly crowded but definitely had a good vibe. I'd definitely go back, perhaps on a Saturday evening to listen to the live music

Really good food and draft options. Had the side chili and Spaten. The chili had what appeared to be brisket. Very good. Then ordered the blue burger with baked sweet potato wedges--both very delicious. Will go back.

We elected to dodge the crowds at Gruene Hall and go here after the rodeo. Beautiful bar. I was surprised at the big selection of beers on tap. Kaitlin the bartender was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the beers, and encouraged to try samples, even though it was late on a Saturday night and somewhat crowded. The live music was good. Most of the floor area is taken up by low tables, where people sit and watch the band, so no one was dancing. Not much opportunity for mingling, unless you can squeeze in at the bar. They should get some high tops.

Nice, cool, many beer's on tap and smoke free. Burgers looked good...but fried sweet potatoes were awful. Still a cool place to hang out.

The owners have done a great job in capturing and creating a slice of Texas. Nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, the Phoenix Saloon is a great place to watch a band, have a cup of chili, and grab a beer on tap (or two)--- all moderately priced. The interior is nicely done from the long bar, to the buffalo head on the wall, and tiled ceiling. Moreover, the bathrooms are very clean with a long sink. There are two stages: a smaller on upfront and one hidden behind a larger projection screen. I'd like to see Phoenix utilize the big stage, but I think that will be when a well-known artist plays. Lastly, they have some seating outside and smoking is not permitted inside--- big plus!!! Phoenix Saloon is now a favorite! Next time, I am going to ask that I get a tour of the entire building and especially the basement (not that they do that), but I am just curious from a Texas history and architecture perspective.

We went to Phoenix tonight for dinner. We were drawn by the reviews and wanted to try the chili. We arrived at 6:00 PM only to find that they were sold out of chili and the next batch wouldn't be ready for 1 1/2 hours. We walked out. The place was dirty and there were so many smokers outside blocking the doorway, we had to ask them to move. Not a great dining experience.

This place is pure TEXAS. We stopped in for a burger and beer, and were pleasantly surprised to find amazing live music on a Sunday. The staff is great, and everything about the ambience fits with the rustic charm of downtown New Braunfels.

We were traveling from Dallas to San Antonio and stopped at the Phoenix Saloon for lunch. I have a lot of food allergies, so I e-mailed ahead, and they absolutely bent over backwards to make sure I got food that was safe for me to eat - and it was good! They prepared for me to the point that the bartender knew my name when I got there. My fiancé had the chili and said it had really good flavor. They grilled me a chicken breast and even offered to go toast my gluten-free bread. I love football, and the game was on - and if I could still drink beer, I would be really excited about their selection of drafts. Seriously, we'll go back the next time we pass through. I can't express enough how much I appreciate the staff's effort!

Not that impressed with the service. Musical always good. Think one bartender was new didn't have a clue what Zeighen Bock was (lol can't spell it). Ok so the chilli is awesome cornbread a little dry/cool...update went back again service is terrible same two people on Sunday as last time. Even if you are ordering food they want you to open a tab. I just ordered chilli and had to pay right then didn't bother to order a beer. I got water when the bartender finally noticed it she didn't even bother to put ice in it. While sitting there at the bar a guy came up and said he wanted to cancel his order because everyone who ordered at the same time at his table had gotten and finished their food. Even with my order I noticed they aren't too quick to check on food that is sitting at the pickup counter. This place was once pretty awesome I've been told but is now in need of revamping. Don't think I'll be frequenting and I live here.

After a full day at Schlitterbahn, my wife and I were starving for a burger and a beer. Surprisingly, this was one of the few places open on Saturday night that wasn't just a bar and relatively smoke-free. We ordered some local beers and burgers (which came with our choice of buns and chips) and were totally satisfied. The burgers were really good (but then again we were starving so maybe anything would've tasted good!). The music and stage were pretty cool too, although we didn't stay to see the live band play. :-\

Beautiful establishment. Great beer selection. Sweet stage and free shows. Did not try the food but apparently it's been on the food network. I love it. Get there early if you want a table though as it is a popular joint.

The burgers and the chili here are top notch, especially the chili. If you can't decide between the two, try the white collar burger which has the chili spices cooked into the burger patty. They have had some good live music there including Scott H. Biram and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears and I expect more bands will be wanting to play there. When I was last there they had just opened up the basement with pool tables and a cash bar and seems like a nice little place to go to if the upstairs is getting crowded but you're not ready to leave. I would like to see more beers on tap. There is room for around 40 and only a portion of those were being used but I have been told the goal is to eventually have all the taps in use. My new favorite bar to visit when I am visiting New Braunfels and my new favorite burger there. It should be noted that the kitchen does close before the rest of the bar (7 or 8pm I believe), so keep that in mind if you're hoping to grab some food there

Great live music bar, in fact it's THE live music venue in the river region. There are lots of clubs in the area that have bands. If you want to go a place to see a show and feel like you're in a music club, this is your bar. They have a full bar (including 30 beers on tap), a friendly staff, and an excellent sound system. This is not a tourist hangout or a trendy hot spot, its a music club - they've spent their resources in all the right places. Way to go Phoenix Saloon. We've been waiting for you.

  • Devin K.

The Pheonix is really starting to bring it w/ their live music selection! I love that they're downtown and right in the mix of what one might call the "New Braunfels Nightlife" Pheonix has a boat load of beers on tap and a great house sound system so you don't have to worry about the band sounding like death, unless of course they suck, but that's rare here!!! Tip: Look for Adam Johnson & the Pay-me's and Devils Hollow here!!!! Great bands!!

Continues to be a New Braunfels fave! Good service, good beer, unbelievable food. Came into town for a family vacation and stopped here first for a meal. Ordered the white shirt burger with sweet potato fries and it was awesome.

My boyfriend asked me to write this review. Eeks! Me thinks not. We came here for chili one night. 8/9 or 8/10. When we arrived the blonde bartender was assisting another customer for a hot 5 minutes. When she came over to us we asked to order food and she said the kitchen closed ONE MINUTE BEFORE. But ma'am, we have been standing here for a while... If someone took our order when we arrived, we wouldn't've been in this pickle. The place was not busy (2-3 3 tops max). I understand the kitchen is closed but I'm sure, positive even, that they don't throw out the chili as soon as the second hand hits 12. You could've asked the kitchen to scoop one bowl of chili out in exchange for money, and I bet $100 they would've done it. Why? Because I ask my kitchen guys all the time. We will not be coming back and my boyfriend would like to speak to management/owners. Thanks.

The chili is highly overrated. I'd rather have a bowl of Wolf Brand Chili. The large hunks of meat in it are kind of dry and difficult to chew. Also, the service staff is sort of unfriendly, but I've come to recognize that the service staff in all of the restaurants in New Braunfels are rude and unprofessional.

    (2)
  • David H.

I only gave a one star for the terrible service, otherwise the food is great. We were there 15 minutes after they opened and the blond waitress forgot to put on our order for food. She never apologized or owned up to her mistake instead she blamed it on the kitchen. When they get rid of her or give her better training I might come back.

The Phoenix is ALWAYS a great time! I used to live in New Braunfels and it starts to be a local hang out where they know you when you walk in, which is nice. I came into town for one night and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Live music, great beer, and great people! The overall vibe is truly comforting.... Great for locals or newcomers trying out the ALL STAR menu featured on two Food Network shows. The chili is yum, the burger is great! I had the chili cheese dog last night and it seemed a bit salty for my taste but then again it is processed meat... Hah. LOVE THE PHOENIX

Hubby and I decided that we must go try the famous chili while in New Braunfels for the weekend. I am more than disappointed and frustrated now. We both ordered the single shot (mild) chili. It came out and we started to eat. I almost cried because it was so over the top spicy. My husband, who eats spicy food all the time, was struggling to even eat his. We asked the server if the mild chili was supposed to be that hot or could we have been served the wrong chili. He said the jalapeños may have been hotter than usual. My husband tried politely to explain that there was absolutely no way that was mild. Server asked if I wanted sour cream. Never would check if we had possibly gotten the wrong chili. I have a super hard time believing that was the mild. I understand and enjoy the fact that chili is meant to be spicy, but this was absolutely way too much. Don't think we will be going back.

I had never been here and we decided we would eat local. We rolled in here. Its a burger and sandwich place. It was fairly busy. You have to order at the bar. There is no table service. We placed our order and opened a tab. We waited for a long time to get our food. We did see the kitchen cranking out orders. I thought the wait could have been a little faster. When we got our food, I had asked for my burger to be medium rare. It was a bit over cooked. Even the bun had black char marks. I had opted for fries for $2 more. There was barely any friends on the plate. I wanted extra mayo; but, with out table service, it would be a pain to ask for anything else. The burger was good with the right amount of meat to fat ratio. It had a great chili taste to it. I saw a ton of other people who ordered chili. For the price of over $11, I would have expected more fries, especially if you are going to charge me $2 extra for them. I had to go to the bar and close out my tab, which was very weird. I might give this place another try.

Phoenix is still the best place to get a burger and beer in New Braunfels. After 3 years, I still usually get the blue burger, though the frito pie is delicious as well (double shot chili, because I usually go for lunch and the ring of fire can leave me unsuitable to be around other people.) If you're hungry, get the sweet potato fries and blue cheese dipping sauce with your burgers. Best sweet potato fries anywhere. The bartenders here are awesome. There are no servers, so you order drinks and food at the bar. Today, the place was packed and there was only 1 person to take care of the entire saloon, yet she kept up with everyone's order and managed to keep everyone happy. Lots of local/Texas beers on tap, including 3 of Texas' best IPAs (I just close my eyes and point.) Be warned - it can get crowded, especially on a cold Friday afternoon when everyone wants good chili.

  • Roger H.

Stopped for lunch, tried the frito pie, I had no idea fritos could come in that small a package, the meat was good but EVERYTHING was an additional charge. Our evening was open so we decided to come back and listen to live music that night. Sat at a dirty table that no one ever came to clean, had a draft beer that had something else in the class prior to my beer, could not drink it but it worked out ok because the music was so BAD it drove me out of the place anyway. Too many other good places to go in the area other than here. Definitely take a pass.

Great beer selection and friendly bar staff. We were there twice and ordered the Chili on the second visit. Really good chilli, they were on some TV show for the quality of the Chili and it did not disappoint, the corn bread was also outstanding. Wish I would have had more time in New Braunfels to visit more often. Great place to hang out and have a beer or three.

  • Kate K.

Eh. We came from out of town to watch a live performance, which was AWESOME! But the 2 stars because we had NO place to sit and eat after driving 2 hours. The owner said people camped out there all day long to get a seat for the show...ok that's great and all but what about the people that have a JOB and CAN'T do that...we had older people with us and it was a hassel trying to get a seat just for them (2). It was very disappointing to pay and think you have a seat to eat and enjoy the show only to NOT have that and not be able to eat. Oh and once we did find a perch for the older people in our group the kitchen was closed so no food for us! Needless to say we probably won't be back...(and I grew up in NB)

  • Natalie G.

I simply adore the Phoenix and will jump at any chance to drive down from Austin for a show. The place is clean, the staff is awesome (owner is a doll, bartenders are so much fun), acoustics are WONDERFUL, and they have vegan chili! It's located just off the roundabout on a very charming little side street lined with brick buildings housing stores and pubs. The cover is very reasonable given the level of talent, which tends to vary in style/genre on any given night, so you're sure to find something you like. And be sure to check out the jukebox that plays old 45s between sets. Great place!

  • Kevin R.

Great western Saloon vibe (says Saloon painted big and bold down the side of the building). We had been tubing the river and were starving. They gave me us a menu and we sat at the bar. After ordering a beer they came back and said they were having a private concert (that was sold out so we couldn't stay even if we wanted to), drink up and leave. Well, I wanted a burger to go with my beer, now I just have a beer (you know how it is when you kind of feel let down) and no burger. Sigh. They were nice enough about it and we got to see the sound check (a dude full on jamming on his Accordion- no really).

  • Wurst Guy M.

This place has to have thee worst bartenders in New Braunfels, don't expect good service. The chili is ok, but they like to keep your change also. The owner couldn't be any ruder. I guess he thinks since he's from Europe he has the right. I do like the BT Barlow though, he's actually good and I don't see him staying there.

went at lunch for chili and to watch football games; chili was excellent; clean and fresh on inside; smoking outside only; full bar; big screen for games

  • Waco B.

Great chili, dogs, and cornbread! If you like spicy food, the Phoenix will not disappoint. The chips aren't house made though. We went during the NFL playoffs so the big screens were all going strong, but I hear it's a rockin' live music spot too.

  • Amber D.

I came in here while on break one day, and I've got to say this place has the best chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries I've ever had. The seasoning on the fries was so good and they were the perfect consistency of crispy on the outside, soft inside, and are complemented nicely by the blue cheese dip. The chicken is marinated in Shiner beer so it is super moist and is topped with bread & butter pickles and a mango chutney, along with the traditional lettuce, tomato, and onion that make this the perfect sandwich. The atmosphere was nice. There was a huge screen in the front above the stage playing football and there is a cozy area with a couch, a chair and small table to chill which is where I chose to set up. Picnic style seating in the middle, and I want to say pinball machines on the other side of the room. Oh, and, so much beer on tap. Ask for something local.

While floating the river all afternoon, all The Man could talk about was getting a good burger. I started suggesting The Phoenix Saloon - good food and less than 5 minutes from where we would get out. And by the time we did get out we were famished and totally jonesing for some red meat! The Phoenix was less than 3 minutes to get to, but that's about all the hype it delivered. The place was less than half full when we walked in, with 2 people sitting at the bar. We sat, made our choices from the menu and The Man made his way to the bar to order - a Phoenix burger w cheese for me and a Blue Burger for him, both medium rare and both with the house specialty sweet potato fries and house sauce. The Man also ordered a cup of the hot chili. After 45 minutes of waiting, and with no cup of chili, I requested some crackers to at least calm our stomachs. The bartender was nice enough to provide a tub of pretzels that we promptly coated with mustard. Yes, we were that hungry, and yes we were still waiting for food. We would have left but you pay when you order, so we were still waiting on paid for food. Almost an hour later our burgers finally arrived, both well done. We didn't care - at this point we were starving and the napkins were staring to look tasty. The sweet potatoes were tasty, the chili was actually hot (we think - it might have just been the entire jalapeño sliced on top), and we ate. But we will not be back.

  • Izzy Y.

Used to be Amazing, I'd go have a few beers and chicken sandwich with the mango chutney. Now it takes over an hour and the staff practically throws things at you just to keep you quiet. You can see into the kitchen if you sit at the bar, and let me tell you what's going on in there is barely sanitary much less not up to code! Revamp! Feet back to your old glory days! Until then I'll drink beer and eat burgers elsewhere

The Phoenix Saloon has much to offer for lovers of music, chili, and/or history. The saloon was lovingly well renovated in 2010, and has been standing in New Braunfels since it was established in 1871. Back then it was well known to be the first bar to serve women, it's live music, and for the chili powder it's proprietor invented. All but the basement closed in 1918 as a result of the Prohibition, and in 1922 it became a department store. I had the pleasure to watch the Blue Water Highway Band here one evening, while sipping the house secret recipe Sangria (which was surprisingly OK). I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try the chili, but the menu looked tasty (I will definitely be back for a try). I found the venue to be quiet enjoyable for live music. The acoustics were good, the seating was open comfortable community style, and there was some room to dance upfront. The staff were also very friendly. Four stars for a great historic music venue just a short drive outside Austin.

Now I know why their chili is on the food network. I crave their chili and Frito pies quite often. The bartenders are always very friendly and welcoming.

Live music. Great beer. Beautify and very historic building. Count me in. They always have some form of entertainment whether it be music, food contests, football games on TV. Chili is a must too. Fun fun fun

Eight of us came in on a Friday night when we were in town for a wedding. It's a great space, the food was great, the drinks were cheap (I'm a New Yorker, though, so that might not mean anything) and the music was good. It's a great chill atmosphere for big groups since you order and pay at the bar for all drinks and food. The fries are amazing. The chili fries are extra amazing. I heard good reviews of the burgers, too. We left around 10:30, and couples had just started dancing.

  • Andy W.

Awesome place, and if you come here, you have to get something with their chili on it or just a bowl of chili. They have a decent beer selection and staff is friendly.

    (5)
  • Dan L.

Chili is excellent. Got the double shot, was plenty hot. Going to build up the courage to try the one cooked with ghost chilies some day. Fries are oven baked then pan fried - totally recommended. Beer was cold, and the live blues was sad. What more could anyone ask for?

    (5)
  • Ken C.

Teresa was really attentive. Eddie knew his beers. Good for beers and hang out. Do the beer flight. You can do more than 1 beer flight, this get to try a variety of beers. Teresa was generous with flight , this great service and we tip well for good service.

  • Kara H.

Great place for live muscle and some local drinks! The bartender, Grant, was very welcoming and nice to my friends and I. The local beer we all tried was delicious. I will definitely come back to check out the food and some local music!

  • Danny L.

Love this place. Kid friendly, smoke-free. Pay close attention to the next part of this review: the menu is small but it's good. It's not the best ever, but it's solid for the price. There is one person usually cooking and it's all made to order. This isn't 'fast food', so if you're in a hurry please stay away so you don't leave a dumba$$ review about service. Plenty of beer options and if you're lucky, live music.

After a fantastic day of floating the river, my friends and I were pretty dang hungry. The first place that we sought out turned out to be closed, but thanks to Yelp we landed in this fine establishment... and thank god we did! I ordered a "double shot" bowl of chili and with red onions and sour cream and I'm pretty sure it changed my life. This is the real deal-- no ground beef, no beans. The chili was seasoned perfectly, the meat was fantastic, and the cornbread was the best. I am still dreaming about this meal months later. My friend and I wanted to order cobbler for dessert, but for whatever reason they couldn't accommodate us. (I can't remember if they were out of the flavor we wanted or just out in general.) They kindly directed us to the bakery down the street which was also amazing and got Phoenix Saloon even more cool points in my book. I will definitely be making a tradition of coming here after a day on the Comal.

Was served the world famous chili and was not disappointed. I had the double shoot chili, FABULOUS! Just spicy enough and the side of corn bread complimented the meal perfectly.

  • Jeanna P.

Absolutely the BEST chili around! Okay... So, i am a huge chili fan( of course, im from Texas), and i can tell u that im NOT a Heat/Spicy fan... But this chili is the ONLY chili that i eat with heat. I get the mild bc its my personal fav and the flavor is outstanding and the heat will clear your sinuses. Theres the perfect amount of meat in every bite! I have had the phoenix chili several times and it is always just as yummy as the first time! Top it off as a frito pie and oh my wow u wont want anything else! The service ROCKS! The food is ALWAYS fresh! And the atmosphere is great! Love this place!!! Oh! And i cant forget... their Sangria drink is the best around!

As a bar, I could really care less about Phoenix. They have a nice beer selection but New Braunfels needs another bar that books mainly Americana bands like Schlitterbahn needs another water slide. I do, however, find myself going for lunch when it isn't crowded. The food here is pretty exceptional. Burgers? Likely the best in town. Chili, excellent. Be forewarned the "Ring of Fire" really refers to what will happen to your nether regions after you eat it. I enjoy spicy, and I do like this chili, but even spice lovers will find the double shot adequate. You absolutely must get the sweet potato fries with the blue cheese sauce. They are unbelievably delicious.

Cool place, REALLY good live music the night I went. Kind of hard to talk though, and not the biggest beer selection.

This is a must stop when I am in New Braunfels. It does not matter what I'm doing or where else I am eating but I go to the Phoenix every time since I discovered it 3 years ago. Great Chili, Great Burgers. A good selection of Local and Texas beers.

Great place, the 2 bar tenders I deal with are very nice and quick. Enjoyable happy hour music too.

  • Richard M.

The saloon is great, the saloon has an old rustic quality which adds to the ambiance, but, the Chili and Corn bread lack something to be desired, in spite of what is written on the wall. I had the combo and found the chili cold and corn bread hard and flavorless perhaps it was a bad day, but a very nice place to have a beer bartender was a sweetheart, and very conscientious.

    (4)
  • Gabe P.

I love the chilli but anything above the second level of heat will put most normal people in dire need of heat reducing attention. I have an abnormal resistance to spicy food and the ring of fire almost had me down and out but it's so good you almost don't even care. And I mean good, put a bowl of their chilli on top of your head and your tongue will beat your brains out trying to get it. 5 stars everytime, service kicks ass and the food rocks almost as much as the music.

This is our go to place when in town. Great selection of beers and the burgers were just right. Served with a bag of chips. Very tasty and great value. We love the ambiance here

Best chili ever, and you can't beat the chili burger either. The old saloon style atmosphere is amazing as well.

Well the way we found this place was like three weekends ago whike I was flipping through chanels and saw this place in the travel chanel. We were both hungry for chilli, so we decided to check it out. The deep fried green tomatos are awesome Bowl of chilli is pretty decent. Just a bit to dark in there I felt like we were eatting our dinner in the dark, lol. The beer was pretty tasty. The total cost for two bowls of chilli, fried green tomatos, a beer, and gas from SATX roughly $45.00 I think we'll be making another trip to try other stuff from there.

I've been wanting to write a review on this place for a while. I will start off by saying I do enjoy going there and generally have great service and a awesome beer selection. Okay so...........about 3 weeks ago my girl friend and I went there. She is from Denmark and I'm from Texas. When we went in the attendant at the front checked out ID's and everything was normal. We had walked there from about 2.5 miles away so that we didn't have to drink and drive later. It was 9:49 p.m exactly when we walked in and my girlfriend sat at the bar to order our beer while I went to the restroom to take care of business. I returned and sat down and only my girlfriend has a beer. The female bartender walks up and hand me a drink and says " I forgot they were checking ID's at the front" and I didn't know what she meant. Apparently my girlfriend ordered a two shiners and the girl said " I can only serve one per ID" because she forgot they were checking IDs at the front so everyone was 21 in the bar. Okay so she forgot and she should have known simple enough and no big deal. We'll then my girlfriend says after the girl told her she could only have one drink per ID that she reproached her and said " is your friend here yet?" In a condescending way like my girlfriend was lying and was trying to order a drink for someone else. She then made one more remark, but I don't exactly remember and don't want to misquote her. Okay so she was having a bad night and thought my girlfriend was trying to pull a fast one. Fair enough even though it was wrong and she should have seen the guy at the front checking ID's. Right after all the I ask for a menu cause that is the main reason they went there. They have a excellent veggie burger and i was craving it. She hands us menus and looks pissed of and I turn to my girlfriend and whisper" what's with her attitude" and the girl returns and we're ready to order and she says " the kitchen just closed, sorry" in a way that she could careless and it gave her pleasure to tell us no. I look at the time and it's exactly 10:00 on the dot!?!? She couldn't serve fill our order cause it was exactly 10:00. I said " there's nothing that's can be done" she says "no" with no explanation and no consulting anyone else or asking the kitchen. I have been here many times with no problems and this one was very disappointing. We have avoided this place about 6 or 7 times since then as it's a regular stop after we leave the river and will not return again before we head back to Denmark in 3 weeks. We wish the circumstance had been different as we enjoy The Phoenix Saloon, but instead we just eat before leaving the house. We we'll take our business down the road to The Pour Haus or to the piano style bar with the great beer selection that's a stones throw away. We had been living in Texas and now we're returning to Denmark . We will be back in Texas in about 2 years so if there still there maybe we'll give it a chance then. Again this is just our one experience that soured it for us, but we have had many great nights there and don't discourage other people from try it. Thank for you reading and have a great day ( or night).

What's not to like about this old honky tonky saloon made new-again?! The ambience is rustic but hip and the clientele is an eclectic mix of locals, folks who like to dance, and some tourists. The beer selection is not huge but very good! There are several taps dedicated to Guadalupe Brewing and Pedernales as well as some Austin breweries. They have bands playing throughout the week and the acoustics is great for the space. I'm sure the owners/investors spent a pretty penny renovating this place -- it shows! I'm sure NB residents are happy to have this saloon call NB home.

Great place for a beer before or after you float the river. No Shirt, No Shoes, No dice!

After floating the river all after noonn we met a couple more friends here.. First time here so we sat at a table and waited for service... No one came up. So i went to the bar and stood there for 9 minutes waiting. It was 7pm so they were not busy. I ordered 4 burgers with fries. Paid just under $60 when the food arrived in a timely mannor, there wasnt enough food to justify the amount paid!!!! I had ordered the bluecheese bacon burger. None of tbe burgers had any blue cheese anywhere to be found. When we asked the lady working she said o ya its cooked into the meat. So while she was standing there we cut into the burger and asked her again where the bluecheese was.. We were not trying to be rude but you must make sure your customers are getting what the ask and pay for.. Small amoumt of fries and the burger was very dry...will not return to this place for a while. I always give second chances in case of them having a bad day. So i will update this post after we retry this place again

The bowl of "Ring of Fire" Chili I had here is probably the best this 7th generation Texan has ever had, with a perfect amount of heat. Add to this an awesome beer selection as well as live music, and the Phoenix is one of those establishments that can make you want to relocate to a town.

We lived in New Braunfels and Canyon Lake for about three years and recently relocated back to Northeast Texas. I can honestly say that Phoenix is one of the places I really miss about the Hill Country. Great food, good beer and a cool, Texas-casual atmosphere made this one of my favorite haunts when we lived there. The great, spicy chili will leave you crying in your beer...for MORE! And, there is that cool leg lamp over the bar at Christmastime! Great place to cool off with a cold one and sample some really great chili! They also have live music most nights which gives it a bit of a honky tonk atmosphere! One of the reasons I loved it!

Love the beer selection here and I think this may be the best hamburger in New Braunfels, perfectly cooked! Sidewalk seating is nice. We love to ride our bikes to this place.

Nope, not good food. Great music but the food was terrible! They are known for their chili but it was clumpy, warm and no good.

Pretty good chili, sends to be smoke free now. Makes it more enjoyable, decent life band..

Do what everyone tells you and try their chili! I had the "Double Shot" chili and it was pretty hot, but if you really like it hot you still have 2 more levels of burn you can try. I really liked mine, it was hot but not too hot that it covered up all the delicious flavor! My husband had their Blue Burger and he swears it's the best burger in Texas so far! Pretty decent selection of Texan beers on tap too (which you will need if you order the hot chili!). We just went for lunch but it looked pretty cool at night, good local music with a $5 cover.

Phenomenal bar food, love their chili and loaded fries. Always has great live local music. Lots of beers including local beers on tap, can be pricy pending what you get. Service is always just in time but sometimes can leave you waiting if it is really busy.

We came here earlier in the evening and received less than adequate service from the bartender. She favored her regulars and left our empty glasses untouched. We came back later because, as the service was beyond horrible, the drinks were reasonably priced. At five minutes to midnight she was once again ignoring us, giving other patrons drinks 'on her' I believe in an effort to avoid us. When she finally got to us (before 12) she said it had been last call. Please note she poured a complimentary drink for someone not thirty seconds before. I will not be back to this establishment and urge you not to go unless you want to be served by a bartender that's rude.

Fun place. Was in here last night to continue celebrating a birthday. The place was busy but not packed - always good in my opinion. The band that was playing was pretty good and there was good service, friendly bartenders, and cold drinks at the bar Unlike the earlier bar we visited (AJ's), there is no smoking inside (I've gotten used to not being in smoke filled bars). BTW, the bathrooms were actually pretty clean (can only speak the guys) - this is often overlooked in many, particularly music, bars

I cannot speak more highly of how much I love this place. I come every single time I go tubing or any time I am in the NEW Braunfels! The staff is friendly and the place is filled with nice locals who are always down to strike up a conversation. The place is home to some amazing live bands, both small names and big. They keep an up to date schedule on their website. The food is phenomenal and the drinks are great. They have a wide selection of beers on tap and an above average selection of liquors. You will not be disappointed and if you are... just have another drink!

This place doesn't even deserve one star. The female bartender (wish I could remember her name) sucked...I've never had worse service. She was rude and incompetent! The food was...eh not even average. Will NEVER go back!! The owner(s) should be embarrassed and ashamed of their employees.

A Sunday afternoon at the Phoenix Saloon is a pure Texas joy. The Texas-sized bar has dozens of beverages on tap. The menu is a little sparse, but everything on it is excellent. The burgers are hand made, the chili is amazing and the corn bread is to die for. But the real joy comes from the live music. They feature some bigger name regional acts, but for me the The Al Barlow Show on Sundays is the best. You never know quite who is going to show up, from high school acts to up and comers out of Austin. Half of the fun is watching Al, who is half Garrison Keillor, half Dick Clarke work the room and get the most out of his acts. Between sets, play a game of pinball, some checkers or just people watch the folks going by in down town New Braunfels. It's a great way to wind down an afternoon of tubing the rivers or shopping in San Marcos.

Not that there's a plethora of chili places in New Braunfels to compare against, but the chili here is really good. The corn bread isn't bad and goes great with it crumbled up in the chili. I also recommend the bleu cheese vinaigrette dressing. There's usually some live music, but that's not what we go for, and can actually be a little loud sometimes. I can also recommend the bleu cheese burger there as well. Large selection of beer, I would suggest they put a belgian style on of the taps. Service has been good in our experience.

Awesome selection for alcohol. Doesn't ever get too busy but when it does it's full of hipsters.

After a long day floating the river the Phoenix is the best place to relax. We visited on a Saturday evening expecting it to be packed but we had no problem ordering and getting our food fast. One of the first things I look for in a saloon is the beer selection and this place does it right. We were pleased to find lots of good local microbrew choices along with the usual standbys. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful in steering us towards the right level of hot...and Hot chili is right! We met a local while we were perusing the menu who was eating the 'Ring of Fire' chili and sweating! He also told us that interesting enough we were eating Chili in the same building that chili powder was invented! The hubs said that his Frito Pie with 'Ring of Fire' on it which he said was nice and fiery but still had lots of flavor. He was supremely satisfied and out of the blue will still randomly say, "man that Frito Pie!". I had the veggie chili and was surprised how good it was considering the rest of the chili options are all steak meat. After we ate a band was coming on stage to play and the beer and good vibrations were the perfect dessert after a long day.

Second visit, first time for dinner. Pretty good service, descent choice of beer. However, the burgers were overdone and the rolls were burnt. The hot dog (gourmet type dog) was presented nice but it was mostly bread. Chili was very good. The negative experience was when the bartender gave excuses for the cook overdoing the burgers i.e. "The cook was busy" / "had a trainee" etc! We countered those excuses and a couple of more she came up with because the cook and prep areas were in full site so we watched the cook prepare the food and he wasn't busy or distracted. She did tell us that the cook was "their" favorite cook, but she never said anything to the cook. I did tell her the flavor of the burgers were good but the patties were dried out/overdone. Not sure if I'll return. The total line of the bill was a bit high also. (No detailed receipt was given). Bottom line: it filled our appetite but not our expectations.
